If you are thinking that you can just wait out the frenzy to find great talent, you might be waiting a long time. All signs are pointing to the “war on talent” to continue into 2022, as reported in a survey by Staffing Industry Analysts.*
According to their survey, “73% of employers are having difficulty attracting employees, up from a similar survey last year that found only 26% were having difficulty. It’s also up from 56% in a survey earlier this year. And 70% of employers expect difficulty in recruiting to continue into 2022.” Not only that but retaining talent has also become an issue and it seems that 61% of companies are struggling with that, too. So how do you not only get one of these candidates to land but hang around for a while? This is what we are hearing:
Bigger salaries. If you are wanting great talent be prepared to pay for it. Trying to get a bargain or something with a low range for a new role is not going to attract people. And your current people are being wooed away from you with promises of higher salaries. When there is a war on talent, those that pay properly typically win.
Better employee experiences. How do you think you have treated people during this pandemic craziness? Did you exhibit kindness, patience, and understanding? How have you been communicating with your team? How have new people been onboarded? Any missteps are going to cause people to run to a company that knows how to get all of these things right.
Better health and well-being benefits. This has always been an issue and you know what to do here.
Increasing flexibility. Time is the one thing that is priceless and everyone now understands its true value because we have gone through months of having more of it. Candidates and employees are going to fight to keep this. If you can’t find a way to accommodate this need, your best people and your best candidates are going to go somewhere else. How am I so sure? Your people are already talking to us.
