Our client is seeking a Science Editor to join their team and ensure the quality, consistency, and integrity of their content. As a Science Editor, you will be responsible for editing science feature articles and accompanying test items for grades 6-12. Your role will involve reviewing and improving the organization, accuracy, clarity, and readability of the content to meet our high standards of editorial and instructional excellence. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Earth, Space, Life, and Physical science, as well as experience in K-12 educational publishing or educational technology.

DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct razor-sharp editing of science feature articles (Earth & Space, Life, Physical) and test items for grades 6-12

Edit content to ensure proper organization, consistency, accuracy of science content, and flow of the text, enhancing clarity and readability

Collaborate with the science editorial lead to maintain editorial and instructional excellence in all content

Ensure that all edited content aligns with the appropriate voice, vocabulary, and compositional structure for students across grades and reading levels

Adhere to project timelines and meet established deadlines for editing assignments
-
Maintain a thorough understanding of differentiated text and Lexile levels to effectively edit content for students with varying abilities
-
Utilize Microsoft Office products, word documents, and smartsheets to complete editing tasks
REQUIRED SKILLS:
-
Bachelor's or Master's degree in a science discipline with a solid working knowledge of Earth, Space, Life & Physical science for middle and high school levels
-
Minimum of 2 years of experience as an editor in K-12 educational publishing or educational technology

Familiarity with differentiated text and experience working with Lexile levels
-
Strong understanding of appropriate voice, vocabulary, and compositional structure for students across grades and reading levels
-
Strong editing and writing skills, with the ability to deliver high-quality content
-
Previous teaching experience is not sufficient for this role; candidates must possess strong writing and editing skills
-
Deep science knowledge and expertise in developmental and line editing
-
Experience using Microsoft Office products, word documents, and smartsheets
-
Ability to work independently and efficiently, managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines
