In the latest installment of our Columbus Creatives: A Day in the Life series, we talk with Katherine McConnell, a Photographer, and adventurer who loves to travel and find inspiration for her art in and around Columbus. We admire you Katherine for continually working on your craft — you are a great example of the stellar creatives we have in our community!
My name is Katherine (Katie) McConnell. I am a 2013 graduate of Columbus College of Art and Design with a BFA in Photography. I was born and bred in Youngstown, Ohio and I currently reside in Victorian Village in Columbus. Although I’m primarily a photographer, I consider myself to be an all-around artist.
Morning
When I get up in the morning I usually make myself a fancy coffee, I typically brew some medium roast coffee and then spice it up with a flavored Coffee Mate and whip cream, and a yogurt parfait, and then jump in my car and listen to some Charli XCX, Grimes, or Marina & the Diamonds to get me pumped on my drive to work.
Afternoon:
I am currently freelancing with 31 Gifts and I absolutely love it! On a daily basis, I typically do retouching and graphic design and production work for them. 31 is a very upbeat and positive work environment and works well for my personality.
Evening:
I am an adventurer constantly seeking inspiration and working on becoming a stronger-well rounded artist and person. My spare time is usually spent working on my photography or design projects, researching, styling, crafting or making jewelry.
When I’m not working on my art I am spending time with people. I love dancing, doing yoga, reading, I mostly read graphic novels and self-help books, eating ice cream, chocolate chip cookie dough from Handel’s is my all-time favorite, and traveling! I’m actually off to LA in a couple weeks with my boyfriend and his parents, and I will get to visit one of my best friends from CCAD when we are there. I also enjoy watching Netflix. My favorite shows to binge watch are Bones, Master of None, & Friends.
I am constantly working on my self-love and positivity, and trying to think of ways to brighten other people’s day.
